The renovation will involve replacing the old quay and the harbour wall. The renovation of the adjacent Makasiinilaituri Quay has been underway since August.
The project will affect the pedestrian route along the western edge of the Vironallas basin, as pedestrian traffic will be rerouted through Eteläranta. The parking area to the south of Vironallas will also be closed once it is demarcated as a working area. The demarcation of the site will start on 13 November.
The work will generate noise from February onwards, when pile driving will be carried out in the area. The pile driving will be carried out daily until July.
The renovation of Pakkahuoneenlaituri Quay is scheduled to be completed in spring 2027.
The renovation of Pakkahuoneenlaituri Quay and the adjacent Makasiiniranta Quay is part of the pre-development of Makasiiniranta. The area will see significant development in the coming years in the form of a new museum, office buildings and open space for city residents, among others.
The contractor is Terramare Oy.
