The Kallahti area of Vuosaari is being overhauled – join a summertime plan walk

The City of Helsinki’s plans for the Kallahti area of Vuosaari include new housing, a daycare centre and development of the local parks as part of a more extensive overhaul. We will present the upcoming changes during a plan walk open to all on 2 June at 17.00.

The Kallahti area of Vuosaari will be overhauled comprehensively over the coming years and decades. The City is drawing up planning principles for this purpose. The objective is to overhaul the daycare centre arrangements of Kallahti, increase the amount of owner-occupied housing and develop the local recreation areas. The streets and squares will be made more pleasant through improved lighting and new traffic arrangements. Vegetation will be increased on the squares and in the parks. The Kallahti shoreside route will be developed and more meeting places for residents will be built on the seashore.

New shared facilities for three daycare centres

Kallahti currently has several small daycare centres operating in old facilities. The objective is to build a new daycare centre building and close three smaller daycare centres. The Myrskyluoto, Hippaheikki and Kajuutta daycare centres will be moved to a new shared building and their current buildings will be demolished. The plan is to then build owner-occupied housing on the former daycare centre plots.

Discussing the overhaul during a plan walk

The overhaul of Kallahti will be discussed on a plan walk open to all on Monday 2 June. The walk will start at Daycare Kajuutta at 17.00 and end in the same place at 18.30. The walk will be attended by planning, green planning and early childhood education and care specialists, as well as staff from the Kallahti area daycare centres.

The plan is to submit the planning principles for Kallahti to the Urban Environment Committee for decision-making in autumn 2025. When approved by the Committee, the principles will steer the further planning of the area.

The planning principles for Kallahti will be available from 27 May to 16 June 2025 at hel.fi/suunnitelmat. You can send written feedback to the City of Helsinki Register Office by 15 June 2025.
