A technical disturbance has downed the City of Helsinki's switchboard, causing calls to drop or not go through. We are working to resolve the problem. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Comprehensive schools

Helsinki has 100 City-run comprehensive schools, providing education for a total of 45,000 children and young people. Of our schools, 86 are Finnish-language schools and 14 are Swedish-language schools. Additionally, there are a few contractual schools that are private schools that have a contract with the city to provide free-of-charge basic education. There are also other private and state-run comprehensive schools in Helsinki.
