Most students and young adults have already received the recommended vaccinations through maternity and child health clinics and school health services. Vaccine protection can be supplemented during studies or military service if necessary.
When you transition from school health services to student health care, it is your responsibility to maintain your vaccination protection.
You can check your vaccination history:
- from the health card provided by your school nurse
- via the Omakanta service (Link leads to external service)
If you need to update your vaccinations according to the national vaccination programme, these can be given free of charge:
- through student health care (read more about student health care)
- at your local health station
- through occupational health care
Booster vaccinations are recommended for diseases such as diphtheria and tetanus.

Your vaccination status is reviewed during the call-up health examination when you enlist. If your vaccinations are not up to date, you will receive the necessary shots during your military service. It is also recommended to get the MMR vaccine (measles, mumps, rubella) at this stage if you have not already been vaccinated.
